ADOPTING A PET

Can we come to ARF to look at the dogs?

What is your adoption fee?

Our adoption fee for all dogs is $200.00

What comes with the adoption fee?

All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested (and treated, if necessary) for heartworms, de-wormed microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Depending on the age of the dog, vaccines may be necessary after adoption to complete a series; these are the responsibility of the adopter.

What vaccines do you give to the animals?

All dogs receive the distemper/parvo (DHPP) and a rabies vaccine (if older than 16 weeks). We encourage you to share the health record you were given at adoption with your veterinarian. They will inform you when they recommend you visit them for future care.

How does the adoption process work?

– You complete an adoption application either online or at one of our adoption locations;

– If applicable, we’ll call your veterinarian and/or references to ensure that current and/or previous pets have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and well cared for;

– To ensure our dogs find the right home based off their individual needs, and to get a better idea of what you, as the adopter are looking for, we conduct an interview to help us determine whether it is a good fit;

– If we feel you would make a good home for our dogs, we will set up a time for you to come to our facility for a meet-and-greet.

How do I pay the adoption fee?

We accept cash, check or credit card

Can I adopt an ARFhouse dog if I don’t live in Texas?

Living out of state does not necessarily disqualify you from adopting one of our dogs; however, all travel expenses are the responsibility of the adopter and should the adoption not work out, travel back to our facility to return the dog is also the responsibility of the adopter.

What do I do if I adopt a dog and start having problems?

Contact ARFhouse immediately and we will try to help resolve the problem. Small, easily correctible problems can turn into major problems if not addressed early on. We have highly-qualified staff/volunteers to help with issues you may be facing.

What do I do if I can no longer keep my ARFhouse dog?

If for ANY reason you cannot keep a dog adopted from ARFhouse, let us know as soon as possible; we ALWAYS take our animals back.

VOLUNTEERING WITH ARFHOUSE

I want to volunteer at ARFhouse, how do I go about doing so?

Because we work with live animals, having volunteers at our facility becomes a liability; dog bites, injury, etc. We are always in need of volunteers at our adoption events, fundraisers and other special events.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AT ARFHOUSE

I need to perform community service hours for probation, how do I do this?

Please e-mail our director at martha@arfhouse.org to let her know you need community service hours; she will get back with you with directions and information regarding community service.

SURRENDERING MY PET

I need to surrender my pet that I did not adopt from ARFhouse, can you help?

We try to save the limited space we have at our facility for stray, abandoned and abused dogs. If you need to surrender your pet, please e-mail our director at martha@arfhouse.org. Be sure to provide a description of your pet, medical information (i.e. vaccine history, whether your pet is spayed/neutered), why you need to surrender your pet and a current picture.

FINDING A STRAY ANIMAL

I found a stray dog; can you help?

If space permits, we always try to take stray, abandoned or abused dogs. If you have found a stray dog, please e-mail our director at martha@arfhouse.org OR submit a “Found Dog” inquiry on our Contact page.

I found a stray cat/kitten(s); can you help?

We are a dog-only rescue; we don’t have an area designated or secured for cats. If you have found a stray cat or litter of kittens, please contact your local shelter or other no-kill rescue in your area.
